Scope and Content

The Forster collection consists of three distinct sections. Section one comprises a collection of report books relating to various eighteenth and nineteenth century viewers, collected by Thomas Emmerson Forster but not relating to the Forster family. Sections two and three comprise working papers of Thomas Emmerson Forster and his son George Baker Forster.

Section one comprises a collection of report and account books. These include report books of important viewers such as Amos and John Barnes, John Straker, Richard Peck and Matthias Dunn, accounts of the Conyers family and of the Delaval family of Seaton Delaval and a volume of newspaper cuttings and pamphlets relating to the miners strikes of 1831/2 and 1844
