Borings and Sinkings
This section consists of volumes of borings, sinkings and sections of strata. Some of the volumes appear to have been extracted from other collections held in the Institute and seem to have been collected together to compile the Sinkings and Borings volumes published by the Institute of Mining and Mechanical Engineers. Volumes NRO 3410/ZA/1-6 contain sinking and boring accounts of George (b. 1803) and Rawling (b. 1825) Stott of Ferryhill, mineral borers, mainly dated c.1830 - 60 but including some earlier accounts, also including accounts of boring charges and personal notes and correspondence NRO 3410/ZA/7-10 are 4 volumes of sinking and boring accounts by various borers compiled by Richard Heckels, sining engineer, mainly c.1820 - 50 but including some earlier accounts. NRO 3410/ZA/11-12 are 2 volumes of sinking and boring accounts probably strays from the Watson Collection as various notes in the report books Wat/2 and bound papers Wat/3 relate to borings in these volumes. NRO 3410/ZA/13-15 are 3 volumes of sinking and boring accounts, the covers inscribed "Thomas Bell" but with no reference to him on the actual accounts. The volumes are lettered F, G and H and include references to earlier lettered volumes which suggest they are part of a larger series. NRO 3410/ZA/16-19 2 volumes of sinking and boring accounts compiled by J. Cresswell Rosecamp, mining engineer. |
